Alamohan Das is a rags to riches story that ended in one generation. Born in a simple rural family at Khiley, near Amta, Howrah in the state of West Bengal, India, he went on to become one of the stalwarts in industry in pre-independent and post-independent Bengal providing employment to hundreds of people. He was the first Bengali to have the vision of an industrialist. With his band of able managers and officers he was able to venture into a variety of industries from the staple jute and cotton to heavy machinery, drugs, etc. Unfortunately, the vision died with him.
