Mol is a town in the municipality of the same name in the east of the Belgian province of Antwerp.
It is not known how long Mol has existed, but the area has been inhabited for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages the region was known as Molle. The first syllable (Mol) refers to the loose sand. The second syllable (le) means "wooded height". It is also not known when the area was described as Molle, but it is suspected around 54 BC, after the Eburones' revolt.
