Shikarpur (Urdu: شڪارپور ) is the capital of Shikarpur District in Sindh province of Pakistan. It is situated about 29 km from the left bank of the Indus, with a railway station, 37 km NW. of Sukkur. After 1853 Sindh was divided into provinces and was assigned Zamindar to collect taxes for British. Zamindars were also known as 'Wadera'. the wadera of "Shikarpur" was Bhagwandas Golani (1841 - 1899) a merchant born in the royal family of the Golanis . After his death in his eldest son Shobraj Bhagwandas Golani (1878 - 1919) took over as the Landlord of Shikarpur, Digri, Jamrao, Kachhelo, Tando Jan Mohammed, Ratnabad, Roshanabad and Khayrpur. Shobraj Bhagwandas Golani was invited to Great Britain by the King along with all the Nawab's and Rajah's of India in 1900 to discuss the participation of their respective provinces in Expansion of British Empire. Shikarpur has always been an important place as commanding the trade route through the Bolan Pass, and its merchants have dealings with many towns in Central Asia. It has seven gates like Hathi Gate, Lakhi Gate etc. It is famous for its pickles and sweets. It has a large market and manufactures cotton cloth and pottery. Because of its rich history, Shikarpur is known as Old Paris.

  • shikarpur of course is the birth places many outstanding personalities ,when sindh was part of india ,shikarpur was most educated city in the sindh and once upon a time ago it remained the capital of sindh.The hindus who left sindh after partion are the among the world class personalities but today shikarpur has left his past it is being ruled by criminals ,it is because it is nowadays identified as one of the most criminal people city,education is destroyed .there are politiction like ibrahim jatoi his losi brother abid jatoi,these both brothers are nursury of crime and had produced thousand of criminal in distt shikarpur .jatoi ,shar,khuroos,kursi,turt,etc .they have hundred of criminal mean they have force to hijacc,kill ,rob,kidnapping.of course they have licence of it to do it.i feel shame over the people who even today praise shikarpur for its past.
  • Shikarpur city is my birth place, in past it was like Paris a very beautiful city near indus river and whole Asia business and trading was used to be done in this city, this city had markets of 3 major markets Thousands Trading Market and Laks and mellions trading markets at that time. Elephants used as a transport there. and Big School and college old buildings made at the time of British Empire still there. British Education system, very educated personalities born and world known today. it was a paradise on earth but ,politicians and other people distroyed it and transfered business and no care to the city made is worst now.

  • shikarpur is my birth place. i remember old days 35 years ago.at that time it was clean city,in afternoon mashki(a man with leather made big bottle fill with water)put water on roads to clean and wash.also there was a loud speaker system (connectd all city) on elect pools for announcement messages and also for entertaing people of city to listen music on main roads,lakhidar and hatidar. There is also a beautifull GHANTA GHAR (just like BIG BAN in London)in heart of shikarpur area lakhidar(DAR mean door).It was really a abeautiful city with old buildings and people of different languages lived togather withpeace and brotherhood and feel proud to said when introduced other people, I M FROM SHIKAR PUR sindh,Pakistan.   • its an old city , and remained battle field of local tribes mostly , some time war b/w doudpota and mahar , war b/w doudpota and pathan or war b/w mahar jatoi is still continue , most richest period of shikarpur was the period before partition , it was the period when hindue and muslims were living brotherly. over all hindues were dominent in every field specially in business and education .
