As of January 2010, the Crater Rim Road will be closed until further notice, due to increased Sulfur Dioxide (poisonous volcanic gas) in the area. During smoggy conditions in the entire area, stay in your car, roll up the windows, and use the "recirculate" option on your car's ventilation system.
