Meersel-Dreef is a village and parish since the merger with municipality Hoogstraten.
More than half of the population is Dutch. Meersel remained long very rural. Further north, at the border with the Netherlands a new hamlet was developed called "Dreef".
This hamlet was more inhabited, and with the merger of Meersel with Hoogstraten the choose was made to merge Meersel and Dreef to Meersel-Dreef.
This area is also the northern most point of Belgium.
