Ramsel is a village in the Belgian province of Antwerp and a sub-municipality of Herselt. Ramsel was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1977.
Ramsel was first mentioned in 1276 as Ramslo. From the 13th to the 16th century, Ramsel was subordinate to the lords of Westerlo, who belonged to the Van Wesemael family. Jan II van Wesemael died in 1464 and Ramsel came to the De Merode family in 1482, who owned it until the French period (end of the 18th century).
Ramsel was a hamlet of Herselt until 1865 and became an independent municipality that year. This led to new activity such as the establishment of a municipal school in 1873. The brick industry declined in the 20th century and the last brick factory closed in 1980. In 1926, a diamond cutting factory was opened in Ramsel.
