Camp ASCCA is Alabama's Special Camp for Children and Adults. Construction began in 1975 and the first camp was held during the summer of 1976. A nonprofit organization, ASCCA is one of the world's largest facilities of its kind. Children and adults with physical and/or mental disabilities visit the facility year-round. Therapeutic recreation programs include: horseback, waterfront, tubing, skiing, ropes courses, zipline, rappelling, swimming, arts & crafts and outdoor/environmental education.

  • This one is correct, too. Actually, this one shows the truest size of the facility. Frankly, I was surprised when I went there the first time. It is quite huge and quite modern. All of the buildings, for instance, have air-conditioning as the people served don't always have a high tolerance for the heat of Alabama summers. An even truer picture of the boundaries/borders would even be bigger. The camp also leases a combined total of about 1,000 acres on each side to assure that hunters never come close to the facility.
