Jones Beach Theater has a rich history that a lot of people are not aware of. It opened in 1952 as the Marine Theater, and at the same had a seating capacity of 8,200. While this may be small by today's standards, back then this was one of the larger venues of its kind. In 1992, this venue underwent a large renovation project adding a second level and bringing the overall seating capacity to 11,200. Once again in 1998, Jones Beach Theater was expanded to reach its current capacity of 15,000.
Each year in early May, Jones Beach Theater unveils its summer concert lineup. While this may not seem like a big deal, to the people of Long Island who love music it does not get any better than this. In fact, as soon as the lineup is released they begin to make a decision on which shows to buy tickets for. So as you can imagine, Jones Beach Theater sells out quickly for the more popular musical acts each summer.
If you ever have the chance to see a show at the historic Nikon at Jones Beach Theater you should take advantage. Although it has been around for many years, renovations have made it a modern and popular venue.
