railway, abandoned / shut down, do not draw title
This is the Long Island Railroad's Rockaway Beach branch. The line left the mainline and traveled to the Rockaways. In 1950, a section of the Jamaica Bay bridge burned, severing the line into two segments. The section south of Liberty Ave. was repurposed as part of the IND Rockaway subway line in 1955 and the upper section of the line was abandoned in 1962.
Most of the track and related infrastructure (signals, third rail, etc.) is still intact, as the LIRR still views it as "out-of-service."
