Kames House dates from the seventeenth century, but alterations and additions were carried out in successive years, including work in the early twentieth century by Harry Ramsay Taylor. The building is of two-storeys, and later additions include circular turrets at the corners.

Kames House was the birthplace of Henry Home, Lord Kames, who lived between 1696-1782.
