nonresidential building, 1913_construction
The church was built in 1913 to serve as the Orthodox church of a Russian garrison.
When Finland gained independence, the church became the property of the state. The church towers were torn down, the interior was destroyed and the icons simply disappeared. For decades, the church served as a storage building for the garrison. Finally in the 1950s the Ministry of Defence rented the church for the parish of Riihimäki on the condition that the parish would renovate and maintain it. In 1960, the church was consecrated by the bishop E. G. Gulin to serve both the garrison and the parish.
