cemetery, First World War 1914-1918, war memorial
The area around Ploegsteert was in British hands for the majority of the war, although it and the cemeteries in the area were in German hands when it was captured on 10th April 1918, before being recaptured in September 1918. This cemetery was started by the 4th Division in December 1914 and continually used until March 1918. Whilst under German control 15 German soldiers were buried in Plot IV, and in October 1918 two further graves were added.
The cemetery takes its name from the 22 graves, of men of the London Rifle Brigade (which then belonged to the 4th Division) who are buried in Plot 3, which was made in the first three months of 1915.
CASUALTY DETAILS: UK 263; Australia 38; New Zealand 34; Germany 18; Total Burials: 353
