Fitting out basin of the former Harland & Wolff Govan shipyard which was immediately to the west of the basin. The yard specialised in tankers and cargo ships but also constructed some passenger liners and the famous Clyde turbine steamer Duchess of Hamilton. Yard closed in 1964 after which the basin and adjacent drydocks were used for ship repair work,latterly by Alexander Stephens Shiprepairers (to 1976) and ClydeDock Engineering (to ca 1985)
