  • I suggest that when writing about this famous, family in the whole of Port Sudan, one should practice the use of proper English. It would be appropriate to the Baashers rather than Baasher's Family. So: The Baashers home one of the leading and oldest and most famous family in Port Sudan. The Baashers are one of many families who lived for many years in Suakin; about fifty kilometers south of Port Sudan; and then forced by the British colonials to abandoned it and move in order to settle in Port Sudan which was then established by the British in 1906, to become the country's major port. Now, Suakin is gone (or at least during the 1900s-1980s), and subsequently its heyday as well. After loosing Suakin, The Baashers felt that these events had jeopardized their main existence, and to survive for them, it meant that they have to move swiftly and use their old trade expertise and merchandising qualities and good and deep rooted reputation, which they were well renowned by. Thus, they took the initiative and started to turn dust into gold. They saw their future and hopes lay on the sea, so they took a good look at the other coast of the Red Sea, and saw the Holy Lands of Islam, hence they ran a ferry company aimed to ferry pilgrims to the port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The idea then developed in how successfully making use of this newly thriving port. So further efforts and means were sought for opening new niches in the market. A shipping company was then established, followed by exporting goods and raw materials to the industrial world. Since that time the Baashers never had to look back as they maintained their skills and reputation and handed them down from fathers to sons, therefore manifesting themselves as forefront leaders.
