Cromarty

United Kingdom / Scotland / Cromarty /

Cromarty is a wonderful wee coastal village and one time capital of the Highlands - prior to Inverness getting the railway in late Victorian times. It is also the one time home of the geologist, writer and documenter of 19th century Scottish life Hugh Miller.

Its a lovely peaceful place, the folk are friendly, the food is good and the air should be bottled as a rest piece for the weary.

However, its much too large for one person to fill out some information on it, so I'm hoping that the local Web design agency Plexus media, Ecoventures (once upon a time Dolphin Ecosse) and friends will populate some info in here.

Check out Ecoventures for the best way of seeing Dolphin naturally in their own habitat (without disturbing them - the Dolphin Space program - look it up non Google) with a fun ride on a semi rigid speedboat; also check out Sutor Creek, a pizza restaurant (they also do daily specials and fresh lcoal food) where they have their very own wood fired kiln. Bring a banana and they'll even do you a banana pizza. [Steve Nisbet]

Nearby specials:
Wreck of the HMS Natal, blew up and sank in Cromarty harbour 1915, 400 lives lost including many locals invited onto the ship to celebrate New Years Eve

Gun emplacements on the North and South Sutors, reckoned to be inspirational to Alistair MacLean who was stationed or visited nearby during WW II with respect to his Guns of Navarone book

Nigg Ferry:
possibly the weirdest looking ferry in the world, and its yellow, contains a revolving platform to turn your vehicle about when alighting, carries up to 2 cars across from Cromarty to Nigg.
