The town of Schwenningen, together with the nearby towns of Furtwangen and Schramberg, was in the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century one of the three pillars of the German horological (clockmaking) history. This is celebrated at the Uhrenindustriemuseum which has two sections, one is dedicated to the product made, particularly by the Buerk clcok factory (in whose premises the museum is located). Buerk invented the watchmen's controll clock. The second half of the museum is dedicated to manufacturing technology and they fave operable machinery (used to make most parts of a watch) which they show in operation. One of the more unusal German museums on horology.
