Formerly the Washington-St. Tammany Charity Hospital, dating back to the 1940s, the facility operated as part of LSU Health by the Louisiana State University. In 2002 the hospital was subsumed into the Bogalusa Medical Center and the original hospital was converted into an outpatient clinic.
In 2014 the LSU unit was transitioned to the Franciscan Our Lady of the Angels Behavioral Care unit.
