Funicular Upper Station (Kyiv)

Ukraine / Kyyiv / Kiev / Kyiv
funicular / cablecar station (rail transport on the ground)  Add category

Kyiv funicular was built in 1905 to connect Podil, the river-side district, with the rest of the city located on the hill tops.

There is a single 238 m long (780 ft) rail track with two tethered cars, Left and Right (Л and П, as seen from the top) which pass by each other at the midpoint of the slope.

The only crash happened in 1928 when the cable broke during maintenance. The top-side carriage sled down all the way and impacted with the low-side one, destroying both. Nobody died or was injured in the accident.

Funicular works from 6:30 AM to 10 PM (in winter) or to 11 PM (in summer)
Price: 1.50 UAH
Time: 2-3 minutes
