The site was formally a power station built in the 1950's and demolished in the early 1990's. Part of the site is also a former Shell oil depot. Currently being cleared for redevelopment. The waterfront acts as a dock for local fishermen as well as two maritime workboats companies: Jenkins Marine and Dorset Workboats.
There is rumoured to be the remains of a side wheeled paddle steam ship underneath the concrete, built over when the power plant was contructed.
The new Twin Sails Bridge between Hamworthy and Poole lands at the east corner of this site and is due for completion in 2012.
