In both past and present, Lyell-Otis has been home to many of the skilled and loyal workers in Rochester's industries. A diverse working-class neighborhood, it is largely industrial in character, particularly around Mt. Read Boulevard and Emerson Street. A memorial plaque on Dewey Avenue that commemorates the men who built the Erie Canal and the Rochester subway, now forming the neighborhood’s eastern boundary at Dewey Avenue.

Lyell-Otis is a walkable neighborhood proximate to the goods, services, and restaurants. The neighborhood is especially well endowed with great bakeries - Petrillo's, Veltre, and Martusciello's – reflecting its strong Italian influence, history, and heritage!

JR Wilson Park and Sebastian Park are located here.
