Tweedbank is a large village located just to the south east of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders.
The man-made Gunknowe Loch, Tweedbank
It is the site of the biggest industrial estate in the region and Radio Borders HQ. Also, soon to be the site of Tweedbank railway station at the end of the Waverley Line between the Central Borders and Edinburgh. A large Business Park is also due to be built at Broomielees in between Melrose Roundabout and the Borders General Hospital.
Tweedbank Drive is the main thoroughfare through the village, leading from Galashiels towards Melrose, with a number of roads adjoining. Driving eastwards, on the left adjacent firstly is Abbotsferry Road. The next turn off is on the right-hand side, Weavers Linn leading to The Beeches. This is a new (2006 – ongoing) development built by Barrett Homes. The development is over looking Gunknowe Loch, which is actually a man-made pond.
Other roads leading from the main thoroughfare are Cotgreen Road, Honeylees Drive, Essenside Drive, Jura Drive and Craw Wood.
Within Tweedbank, besides the residential homes, there is a primary school, an all weather sports complex, a large children's all-weather play area, Gun Knowe Loch and to the further east is an industrial estate. A local shop, hairdressers and restaurant (under construction) are further services found adjacent to the Loch.
Tweedbank, as the name suggests is adjacent to the river Tweed, approximately 500 metres down river from Abbotsford House – the historic home of Sir Walter Scott.
