The former junction point of the three operational versions of the Erie Canal, Three Canals Point joined the original 1825 Canal, the enlarged 1850's Canal and the present-day Erie Canal/New York State Barge Canal. At one time a bustling transfer point between newer self-propelled vessels plying the modern canals and older mule-drawn barges calling industries along the original canal, the completion of the 1918 Barge Canal ended the use of the older two canal systems and the junction was largely abandoned as both the 1825 and 1850 canals were filled in.
