Former Palais Wasa, built in 1860 by architect Peter Hofbauer, in the style of Historism for the Crownprince Gustav of Sweden (1799-1877), later Gustaf Gustafsson von Holstein-Gottorp, Prince of Vasa. He was son of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden, who had to abdicate in favour of his uncle, King Charles XIII. of Sweden.

Gustav lived from 1825 till his death in Austria. He was Field Marshal-Lieutenant in the imperial army of Austria and head of the Infantry-Regiment "Prinz von Wasa" No. 60.

The Palais Wasa is situated in the street (Wasagasse), which is named after him.
