lake, picturesque
Just off the coast, connected with the mainland by a bridge is Yunoko Island, a small island with walking paths and a small shrine on its summit. A walk around the island is particularly memorable after dark during high tide, when waves and insects can make for an Indiana Jones like adventure.
Yudaki Falls are the lake's outfall.
The lava of eruption of the Mt.Mitsudake made landscape of Lake Yunoko. Altitude of the lake is 1478m. The circumference is 3km, and it takes about 1 hour to go round.
There are broadleaf trees such as Noriutsugi (Panicled hydrangea), Ohkamenoki (Viburnum furcatum), Udaikamba (Monarch birch). In addition to that, there is anatural forest of conifer such as Kometsuga (Northern Japanese hemlock) and Nikko fir tree. Also, the Azumashakunage grows gregariously on the southern shore near the Yudaki waterfall. You can enjoy watching flowers in May and June. Also, there is a peninsula called Usagijima, and a marsh thereon. Cottonsedge and American cranberry grow there.
In addition, there are many wild birds around Lake Yunoko. Mallard, Tufred Duck, Smew and Wigeon are seen in the winter.
