Paikkari Cottage

Finland / Uusimaa / Sammatti /
 museum, place with historical importance

This pretty old wooden cottage was the birthplace of Elias Lönnrot (1802-84), the compiler of the Kalevala . It has a large number of objects from his life, including his own kantele (Karelian stringed instrument). The setting - flowery meadows by a lake - is tempting picnic territory. There are many other sights on the Lönnrot 'trail' in this area.
