The opening coincided with the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. The site includes a Nipponzan Myohoji Temple. “Pandit Jawaharlala Nehru [1889-1964] laid the foundation stone of first Shanti Stupa in Bihar state at Rajgir.” Built in marble on a 400 meter hill reached by an aerial ropeway. The four shining statues of Buddha are on the four sides of the stupa.
