Batbatan Island

Philippines / Western Visayas / Batbatan Island /

Batbatan Island, Culasi, Antique. Home of the ethnic people called Tangays, this island harbors a rich biodiversity underwater (with its coral reefs and exotic tropical animals), above ground (with colorful endemic wild birds and a colony of flying foxes and monkeys), and underground (inside its caves), and everything in between (the coral cliffs that submerge in clear sea water and the creatures that live there).

Natural coves, white sand beaches, a shifting sand bar for relaxation; whale shark watching, hiking, mountain climbing, and kite boarding for adventure; the rituals, the legends- the culture. The old watch tower, the ruins and the legends that persisted to exist throughout ages.

  • I am a Culasino but sad to say, I never went to this beautiful island. I think it is the most populous barangay(village) now in Culasi with a population of 3,000 plus. It is the fishing bowl capital of Culasi where many Antiquenos flocking the public wet market in the mainland (Culasi) just to buy some fresh fishes, lobsters, et al. I even saw some businessmen bought those stuffs and sold these in Boracay and Kalibo, Aklan. Even the sun-dried fishes came all the way from Batbatan. With the recent development of this town, Culasi, a new investor the "Panay Explorers" will be putting up their hotel, spa and diving area rolled into one one.Batbatan together with Malalison Island, Lipata shores and the Culasi Bay area will be prime diving tourism destinations in Antique in a short year of which Panay Explorers Co. is optimistic that Culasi, Antique will be put on the world map.
  • Culasi, Antique is really blessed with beautiful islands and the wonders within and around them. Time for them to be developed and utilized as socio-economic development catalyts through sustainable tourism industries.
