Little Venice (London)

United Kingdom / England / London

First named "Little Venice" by Robert Browning, who in one fell swoop proved that being a famous poet does not mean you have the slightest grasp of geography.
This piece of poetic exaggeration (two canals does not resemble Venice in the slightest) has led to generations of confused looking Italian tourists trying to spot a gondolier.

  • The island in the middle is called "Punches Island" and was given to me, Eddie Punch, by Danny Baker and witnessed by Baylen Leonard on Radio London's "The Danny Baker Show" on Thursday 19th July 2007. It's mine I tell you ...... ha ha, he he It's all mine - - - - - - - Email to Danny Baker claiming the Island - - - - - - - - - Hi Danny Not exactly a park but I want the Island at Little Venice because when I was 12 years old I learned to canoe at the youth center at Little Venice and When I was the only one there I would paddle across to the island stay there untill the shout from the club came "Oi, bring the canoe back were closing" On the Island (Punches Island) I was King. It was wonderful and it's mine. (Probably worth a fortune today) No-one else ever thought of going there and the other kids thought I was a little, um, well ............... but I didn't care, did I ? Oorright ? Eddie Punch
  • Oh, no! A few moments ago, this tiny, untouchable kingdom was still just a dream — and a sanctuary for birds and paddlers—, something of a mystery to me, who can only see it from Blomfield Rd… Sire: My narrowboat for this Kingdom!!! Now I know why I own now a Dutch barge, probably to sail elsewhere. You're the reason why, Mr. Punch!
  • Added some photos from the place (The photo is taken by me).
