Built between 1190—1198 and demolished in 1871 during the Meiji reforms. Currently, only moats (partly), ruined mud ramparts and (restored) gates remain. Partly, the territory is a prefectural park; also, there are municipal administration buildings and schools.
Originally residence of Sukemoto family, since 1600s it was the residence of the Mito btanch of Tokugawa family.
