Toboali is the capital of Bangka Selatan. It is a small town located in the southwestern part of Bangka Island and famous for its tin resource. Tin mining has been done here for many years and it can be dated back to the Dutch colonial era in Indonesia. In 1970s to 1980s, the tin mining was done by the state owned company called "Unit Penambangan Timah Bangka" (UPTB), which then became PT Timah Terbuka in 1990s (public company). The remnant of tin mining in the region is still obvious, because on the land where the tin has been taken, there is not much vegetation growing.
