Kogome-no-Yu spa (Yugawara) | bathhouse, onsen

Japan / Kanagawa / Yugawara / Miyakami, 562-6
 bathhouse, onsen

An onsen using once favored by Shoguns mineral water of Yugawara (this water was carried to Edo and the carriers had no right to put down the barrels until they reached the destination).

The bath is big but has no modern gimmics like jet baths, bubble baths and suchlike. Each part, ladies' and gents', has just three tubs, two indoor and one is rotemburo. The latter (in the men's bath) commands a good view at the town. There are also tatami rooms for resting after bathing, and a cafe/ A massage parlour offers a 20-minute massage for 2,100 Yen. Just next to the bath (uphill), there is an interesting shrine.

Entrance price is 1,000 Yen, and this does not include a towel.

To get here from the Yugawara station, take bus bound for Fudo take (waterfall), and get off at Bijutsukan-mae stop, then follow the signs, across the river and uphill.
