Built by the Rouse Company and opened in 1973 with Stawbridge & Clothier in the middle, surrounded by a "square mall".
In 1996 J.C.Penny and Boscov's agreed to build at Exton Square; rather than building at a new proposed Kravco mall "Chester County Galleria". Kravco had hoped to win 5 anchor dept. stores; the Galleria was never built.
Greatly expanded in 1997-1999 with Sears joining Penny's, Boscov's, new parking stuctures and more mall stores.
The mall is now owed by Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.
