The Church is the oldest sacral building in town and one of the oldest temple of Christian Europe. From historical and artistic point of view that Romanesque church is the most important monument of the rich history of Town of Inowrocław. The Construction was started shortly after the year 1180 according on the initiative of the Prince Leszek, grandson of the King Boleslaw the Krzywousty (literally: Bolesław the Curlyface or Wry-Mouthed). In the beginning of thirtieth century the construction finished.
These days the church dedicated (literally) 'The Name Of The Blessed Mary' is an important national monument which is a kind of pure evidence telling about beginings of Poles' christian faith in the medieval Slavic nation that can picture us over one thousand years of catholic culture.
Since 13th July 2008 the church is called with title to Minor Basilica (in polish: Bazylika Mniejsza)
