Like most of the original section of the M74 built in 1968-71, money was no object at the time, which is why the ludicrously expensive junctions here at Maryville, and also at Hamilton were built on a truly American scale, with their free flowing sliproads from all possible directions. Only today with the southern extension into the centre of Glasgow finally built, do they actually carry the levels of traffic they were designed for!
