  Chandranigahapur is/was the name of VDC (Village Development Committee)named under the name of the then Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher Rana, but this VDC is declared as Municipality in 2011 by the Government of Nepal. This municipality is situated in the most northern part of Rautahat District. The Rautahat District, one of the 75 district in the country, Nepal, is the distrct which is annexed to the politial boundary of India to the north.   From 2011, Chandranigahapur VDC has been named as Chandrapur Municipality, which comprises more VDCs within it. The name Chandrapur is a compound word comprised of two words viz., "Chandra" and "Pur". Here, Chandra is a Sanskrit term, which refers to "Moon", and "Pur" to "Village, or Residency, Locality", or "Municipality" in modern term. Chandrapur (Chandranigahapur) is the main junction among the many districts such as Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi. These districts are interlinked through the Mahendra Highway. Chandrapur Municipality is spread both directions: North and South of the Highway. The Mahendra Highway runs through mid of the Chandrapur Municipality. The Chandrapur Municipality is the best and most advanced (in all aspects and angles) locality in among these districts aforementioned.

  Chandrapur Municipality (old name: Chandranigahapur VDC) one of the Municipalities that fall into the Rautahat District. It is situated to the far-norther end of the district embracing the borderline of Makawanpur district in the north; Bara District to the west and Sarlahi District to the east. The Mahendra Highway, the longest highway of Nepal, runs through this municipality. It is also one of the most advanced and developing locality in the district. Now, this district and the Municipality fall into the State No. 2.
