Ducal Palace in Gubbio (Gubbio)

It is located in front of the Duomo. And ' the result of enlargement and transformation of a group of medieval buildings :
In fact, it was built in Renaissance style , starting in 1476 at the behest of Federico di Montefeltro designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini from Siena. The work was carried out under Guidobaldo . The walls of the buildings above, including the former residence hall, are easy to find on the outside, especially in the downstream side . Inside the palace is a beautiful courtyard , which corresponds to the space previously occupied by the ancient town square . At the bottom, on three sides, were succeeded by slender arches of the portico of columns and pilasters at the corners at top floor with an elegant windows with architraves divided by pilasters. Currently you can visit the ground floor rooms , which retain chimneys and other architectural ornaments , copy of the " closet " of Federico da Montefeltro (the original work is located at the Metropolitan Museum in New York) , as well as underground with interesting finds from the excavation. Other wings of the building are used as temporary exhibitions .
