Palazzo dei Consoli (Gubbio) | museum, interesting place, historical building

Italy / Umbria / Gubbio / Piazza Grande
 museum, interesting place, historical building

Made between 1332 and 1338 to a design by Angelo da Orvieto (whose name appears in the inscription on the portal of the monument), it is one of the most beautiful palaces in Italy.
Four large buttresses divide into three parts the facade facing the square, a central staircase leads to the fan-shaped portal flanked by mullioned windows to the heart. Upstairs there are six arched windows, paired in twos and decorated with a notched frame. At the top is a crown of pointed arches and merlons. In the left side of the nimble leaps crenellated bell tower. The "Great Bell", played with his feet from bell dates back to 1769 and weighs 20 tons. The other sides of the building repeat the forms of the façade, except towards the valley, which is resting on the wing very close to ending at the top with an airy loggia and incorporates, at the bottom of a flight of communication unfinished. Inside the imposing greater room with vaulted ceiling and rooms upstairs (edited later) is now the Museo Municipal.
