library, 2007_construction
Genk's main library came into being with the construction of the new town square in 2006. The old library on the second floor of the Town Hall, at 2,000 m², had become too small for the 265,000 visitors who visited it every year. The modern library was a prestige project, which is why the city council entrusted the design to the famous French architect Claude Vasconi. This was also Vasconi's last project, who passed away in 2009. The library was finished in 2008.
