Fort Victoria (Kota Ambon Manise)

The fort was built on the beach by the Spaniards in 1575. In 1605 it was by the Dutch, led by Steven van der Hagen , captured and converted to VOC fort. From 1605 to 1611, Ambon, and therefore the fort controlled by Frederick de Houtman and then to 1819 among others by Pieter Both , after the headquarters of the Dutch government was moved to Batavia . But after Ambon no longer the center of power of the East India Company was the fort remained important as a focal point of the government of the Moluccas . With base Fort Victoria and miscellaneous items did the VOC many concluding contracts for the supply of cloves. In 1774 the fort was badly damaged by an earthquake; after the rebuilding was renamed Fort Nieuw Victoria.
