Shumma (also spelled Sciumma; also known as Asarka [also spelled Assarca, Ascarè, Assarka]) is an island in the Dahlak Archipelago, in Eritrea.

In 1995 divers discovered an ancient shipwreck containing wine amphorae dating to the 5th-8th centuries AD, and appearing to be of Elephantine (Egypt) and Aksumite (Ethiopia) origin. See ina.tamu.edu/blackassarca/BA95surveyreport.htm . This is the earliest known shipwreck in the southern Red Sea.
