Viveros / Jardines del Real (Valencia)

Spain / Valencia / Valencia

Former gardens of the "Palacio del Real", demolished in early 19th century by the Valencian people so that Napoleon troops could not place their guns up there to bomb the city.

Remains of the palace where found underground nearby during sewer works c. 1990. A small hill next to the outer wall of the gardens is said to be made up of ruins of the palace.

Today's garden is enlarged with respect to the original one. It contains a small road circuit for children to learn traffic signs while biking or skating, a Natural Sciences Museum, and a small aviarium with parakeets and other colourful birds.

Film projections ("Cinema Jove" movie festival), concerts (during the "Feria de Julio" or July Fair) and the Book Fair (around May) take place in these gardens.
