A former parish became hermitage. Milar Vilar is a village disappeared from the plains of Roussillon.The hamlet was gradually depopulated during the Middle Ages.This chapel of the place was then transformed into a hermitage. The first mention of Milar Vilar Parish in 1163 under the name Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae de Villars Milariis.
Of Romanesque origin, was built at that time, then modified in the twelfth century (replacing the timber by a stone arch).It has a single nave and semicircular apse. It contains statues of the seventeenth century. This shrine is mentioned in 1688 under the name of Hermita Senyora de Nostre Vilarmilar. The hermit took part in the ritual Feasts in all the surrounding villages, a pilgrimage shrine which was used to maintain a spiritual life in the chapel.
Restoration began in 1956 under the initiative of Abbé Serradeil .
