This Burg (fortress) is some 800 years old and was built by the Graf von Leiningen. The fortress sits high on a bluff with a commanding view of the Rhein valley. From this point, guards positioned at the lookout points could detect approaching enemy armies and prepare for battle.
Th village of Neuleiningen is from a fairytale book. The house have been maintained in their original Fachwerk (exposed beams) construction. The cobblestone streets are extremely narrow and will barely allow a vehicle to maneuver through the town.

Sitting on the edge of the bluff with a commanding view is the Burggraff restaurant and hotel. The terrace affords an outstanding view of the countryside and one can see Mannheim and beyond on a clear day.
