A Ukrainian politician Viacheslav Chornovil (1937–1999) was one of the most prominent political figures of the late 1980s and early 1990s who paved the path of the contemporary Ukraine to its independence.
In the Soviet Union Viacheslav Chornovil was a dissident, he was arrested multiple times in the 1960s and 1970s for his political views.
A monument to Viacheslav Chornovil was opened in August 23, 2006 (National Flag Day).
