South Shore Plaza originally opened in 1961 as an open-air plaza with a 120,000 ft² Filene's and 30 smaller stores. A 300,316 ft² Jordan Marsh (later converted to Macy's) opened in 1968. The center was enclosed in 1976 and saw additional anchors, such as Lord & Taylor in 1979 and Sears in 1980, when the mall reached 100 stores.

South Shore Plaza is an enclosed shopping mall located in Braintree, Massachusetts, United States. Formerly New England's largest shopping mall (surpassed by the Natick Collection), it is anchored by Macy's, Sears, Nordstrom and Target. The mall currently measures at almost 1.2 million ft² of retail and dining space, including a large food court.
