Site of Toledo's first waterworks which was established in 1873 with the erection of the Broadway Pumping Station and a 202 foot high standpipe used to maintain a constant water pressure. The five foot diameter pipe was surrounded by an ornate octagonal brick tower reminiscent of Chicago's Water Tower. Water was drawn directly from the Maumee River and distributed untreated through an 8.5 mile pipe system.

In 1910 the waterworks was replaced by the Brookfield Filtration plant which was built further up the Maumee River. The tower and water works were demolished in 1917.
