Since 1997 Toruń has been one of the twelve objects in Poland, that were distinguished with the entry onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. The city owes its unique character first and foremost to its perfectly preserved historical buildings - gothic churches, gothic and baroque granaries, charming medieval tenement houses, many of which still look as centuries ago. Toruń is a place where past meets the present and science meets the culture. Charming old town encourages to walk the paths of European cultural heritage. Besides historical buildings, Toruń is famous as the birth town of Nicolaus Copernicus and the place where the famous gingerbread of Toruń is made.
