Unchu Math is a mound that was excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India in 2003-4, revealing signs of habitation in the form of pottery, ornaments and dwelling walls. Both vertical and horizontal excavations were carried out, revealing signs of habitation in Kolkata and it's suburbs prior to Job Charnok, and possibly even prior to the hereto earliest known residence in the area - Chandraketugarh. Excavations continued for over four months, revealing undisclosed amount of pottery and other artifacts. A skeleton was also found in the dig in the deepest part of the pit. Shortly afterwards, the pit was filled in and the excavation work discontinued.
Now it is being used as play ground.
