Cory Falvey couldn’t hold back the tears. As the El Paso Socorro Bulldogs awaited the presentation of their Class 5A state championship trophy, Falvey embraced his teammates and his coach, Chris Forbes, for what seemed like an eternity.
Ironically, it had almost been that long since El Paso last won a state baseball title.
On the shoulders of Falvey’s two-homer, six-RBI, MVP performance, Socorro ended a 60-year drought for El Paso baseball as the Bulldogs pounded their way to a 12-7 win over Lufkin in 5A state title game on Saturday at Dell Diamond (Round Rock, TX)
