Kadirli has been founded on Çukurova, where many civilizations have lived since the ancient times. So the history of the town is paralel with the history of this region.Time to time the management of Kadirli has changed hands. Asativas, the ruler of lowland
Adana , built up an edge castle at Karatepe-Aslantaş at b.c. 800 .There are many historical artifacts that are documenting the romanic period when Kadirli was a magnificent town known as Flaviopolis.These artifacts are ; the bronze stature of the emperor Hadrianus (a.d. 117_1389) , the Romanian hammam ,that was built on a 6-7 acres area, is under the city today, the Alacami which is a Romanain basilica that belongs to the 5th century a.d. and very other valuable monuments and artifacts. The first muslim armies have entered the region at the 7th century and the first turkish armies have enetered at the period of Abbasid caliphate and sultanate of Rum. In 1515 Yavuz Selim, the Otoman emperor, has entegrated Kadirli to Ottoman empire.
Kadirli was a sanjak which was dependent on Maraş subdivision of Ottoman empire . Kadirli had been managed by the beylerbeys as subdivisions of Ottoman Empire until 1865. In 1865 Kadirli was announced as town and in 1872 minicipality was founded in the center of the town.The city has been called as Kars-ak-eli, Pazar yeri and Kars pazarı time to time. Since 1928 the town has been called as Kadirli. On march 1919 at the end of world war 1, Kadirli was invaded by Armenian and French armies .On 7 march 1920 kadirli was saved from enemies.
